GakkenFlex, a product by Otona No Kagaku. [大人の科学 (literally means Science for adults) ] Otona no Kagaku is a scientific journal published by Gakken (学研) these issues of the magazines are Launched irregularly, but lately they have been issuing new products every month. Before I jump into the main topic here is a product of this months Otona No Kagaku.
like always, its a D.I.Y. project! yes! you are not mistaken! This month’s otona no kagaku will be a MINI ELECTRIC GUITAR!! priced at 52usd, you can email me for ordering or you can search on ebay when the product gets out. Alright its time to get to the point, GAKKENFLEX vs BLACKBIRD, FLY let me list out the Advantages and Disadvantages of each camera, so you can weight on the Pros and Cons
GAKKENFLEX
Advantages. 1. Cheap and a Reasonable price for a camera 2. Very customizable, you can spray paint each pieces or modify it. 3. It has a TRUE view finder (that means what you see is what you get) Disadvantages. 1. No Bulb Shutter (can’t play with long exposure.) 2. No flash hotshoe (can’t shoot in dark places.) 3. No frame counts ( you will know when you are on the next frame by looking at the rotation mark, but you won’t know how many shots you’ve already taken. this will cause you to do double exposures or skip a frame.) 4. No Aperture changes [Aperture = F11 Shutter speed = 1/150 sec.(informations located at the bottom of page 46 in the magazine)]
BLACKBIRD, FLY
Advantages. 1. Hotshoe (flash, colorsplash or any flash fun) 2. Optional Aperture settings 3. Bulb shutter 4. Few shooting modes( square, 24×36 and no frame) 5. Frame counter(tells you how many you have shot.) Disadvantages. 1. Not true view finder (that means you have to calculate the distance with the numbers on the lens) 2. Expensive
My Conclusion
To me, I like both cameras. They each have their own character, but right now, I’m having fun with the Gakken more then the blackbird, fly. Why? because True finders are just irresistible, since I don’t want to think too much about the aperture and shutter. the gakkenflex is perfect. Gakkenflex to me is a very straight forward guy, its either you got the shot or you don’t. Now I just soak myself into the street and start shooting, no calculating, just focus and SNAP. I’ll let the film developers do the work later. here is a little gallery of the photos I took with the infamous GAKKENFLEX the Film used in this gallery is the DNP 200 CENTURIA

The problem is solved. It’s just not aligned.
